Samantha Slater is a South African-born artist and teacher. Her innate creativity has always been evident in her painting, drawing, her interest in architecture and design, and her pursuit of choreography and dance, in which she ultimately completed a master’s degree. While she loves movement and performance, she found the impermanence of the medium left her unsatisfied. After immigrating to the United States in the early 2000s, Samantha began to experiment with jewelry-making and realized that jewelry gave her the opportunity to evolve and apply her imagination, artistic skills, and her love of movement to more permanent creations. As Samantha taught herself jewelry techniques, she also discovered her passion for teaching. In 2007, she began giving lessons, and Samantha now teaches a wide-ranging and ever-growing curriculum of techniques to students in four locations in the greater Seattle area and out of her home studio. In 2018, she launched her business, Samantha Slater Studio. Her minimalist, geometric jewelry has been featured in a variety of publications and is sold in more than 20 retail locations in the United States and through her website.
